Proteins and pigments
Phycocyanin and Phycoerythrin
Some microalgae such as Spirulina or Porphyridium contain phycobiliproteins that have an intense, natural color as an alternative to natural pigments. In Addition, these colorants present a proven high bioactivity.
An example of this is the Phycocyanin, a powerful blue pigment found in abundance in Spirulina and AFA. Scientific research with this protein-based pigment shows a strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity on the skin. Likewise, Phycoerythrin is another protein based pigment isolated from Porphyridium sp. It shows a bright pink colour and has also been evaluated as a strong antioxidant.
Carotenoids
``IDEAL FOR USE IN COSMETIC PRODUCTS AS A NATURAL COLOURANT & POWERFUL ANTIOXIDANT``.
Natural β-carotene presents a great demand, because it has greater efficiency than synthetic. All our ingredients have high amounts of natural β-carotene but especially the microalgae Dunaliella, which can reach really high concentrations, with more than a 10 of β-carotene. In addition, natural sources usually contain one or two carotenoids at lower concentrations, however, Dunaliella contains a range of carotenoids with broader applications, in addition to containing natural phytonutrients such as amino acids, essential fatty acids and vitamins.
You should always choose a natural, non-synthetic β-carotene, as the natural has high antioxidant activity, unlike synthetic, which can even generate more free radicals due to its great molecular instability.
